Temporary Services
If you are ill while away from home, in the first instance, please contact your own surgery for a telephone appointment. If you have run out of medication, then please contact your own surgery which can arrange to send your prescription to a local pharmacy.
If you are not registered with a doctor but need to see one, you can receive emergency treatment from the local GP practice for 14 days, you will need to complete a temporary registration form.
You can be registered as a temporary patient for up to three months. This will allow you to be on the local practice list and still remain a patient of your permanent GP. After three months you will have to re-register as a temporary patient or permanently register with that practice.
To register as a temporary patient, simply contact the practice you wish to use. Practices do not have to accept you as a temporary patient although they do have an obligation to offer emergency treatment. You cannot register as a temporary patient at a Practice in the town or area where you are already registered.
Your Named GP
All Patients registered with the surgery will have been allocated a named accountable GP who will be responsible for your overall care. We would like you to generally see your named GP for most of your routine care. If you do not know who your named GP is, or you would like to change your named GP please let us know.
You will in more urgent circumstances be booked with a different clinician as your usual GP will not always be in and have urgent capacity.
Research suggests that having one or two GPs who know you well creates better outcomes for patients, and a more satisfying doctor-patient relationship. We will therefore do everything we can to get you back to your usual GP. Whilst this may involve waiting a little longer for an appointment, it will enable you to see a GP who knows your background, avoiding the need for you to repeat yourself.
