Smear test interval change
From 1 July 2025, the NHS will be moving to 5 yearly cervical screening intervals (previously 3 yearly) for all patients with a cervix aged 25-64.
If you’re due a smear test in the next 3 years, you will still be called within the 3-year window. Only once you have been screened and informed that the next smear will be 5 yearly, will it change over.
Patients will still be invited by the central team, although this will now be through the NHS app first, then a letter if you do not respond. We’ll be making every effort to contact our non-responders to encourage attendance and answer any questions.
