Weight loss injections Tirzepatide (Mounjaro)
You may have heard recently that GP surgeries can prescribe the weight loss injection tirzepatide (also known as Mounjaro).
Under NHS guidelines, there will be a phased introduction in general practice, with priority given to the highest risk patients. These are people who have a BMI over 40, AND who have 4 other health problems from the approved list, i.e. cardiovascular disease, hypertension, obstructive sleep apnea, high cholesterol and type 2 diabetes.

At Clevedon Medical Centre we have approximately 10-15 patients who fit these criteria, with an estimated 70 patients across the Gordano Valley PCN (which includes practices in Pill, Portishead and Clevedon).
Prescribing tirzepatide includes regularly titrating the doses, and monthly follow ups. To ensure we can do this safely and effectively without impacting our existing services, we will be directly contacting those patients who fit the criteria over the next few months to invite them onto the programme.
