Research at Clevedon Medical Centre

Research benefits everybody

At Clevedon Medical Centre (CMC) we have an enthusiastic Research team consisting of three GPs, two nurses and one research administrator who work with support from the wider CMC team. We are keen to promote research in the Primary Care setting to learn better ways to help our patients to live healthier lifestyles, improve methods and tools for diagnosis and treatment, prevent illnesses and support development of new treatments.

If we work together with our patients we can gather high quality evidence, which will help us to ensure we are offering the safest and most effective ways to help prevent illness, improve health, and develop the services we offer.

Health research plays an important part in how the NHS develops services and continues to provide high quality healthcare for our population.

At Clevedon Medical Centre we mostly deliver primary care research studies or clinical trials run by universities, these are academic studies with funding from the NIHR (National Institute for Clinical research. Occasionally we work with commercial pharmaceutical companies to help in answering questions about new drugs treatments or equipment. These studies would be funded by the drug company. We also support studies where researchers want to visit to see Clevedon Medical Centre patients for their own academic study in our clinic rooms and we support recruitment into academic studies that may involve researchers interviewing patients via phone or video calls
